While Andrew Bynum was, by far, the most meaningful addition of the summer, the Sixers went to great lengths to reshape their perimeter attack. Andre Iguodala, Lou Williams and Jodie Meeks are all gone, their replacements....shooters.

Back in June, with disconcerting rumors about the Sixers ownership/front office swirling, I chose to bide my time. Who's in charge, who's make decisions, those are typically secondary concerns. Possibly, they aren't concerns at all. Who makes a decision carries no meaning without the decisions themselves present to be evaluated. Well, now we have a handful of decisions, and possibly the outline of a plan...or a direction...or maybe two plans and two directions. Let's take stock.

With the franchise's future seemingly hanging in the balance, the Sixers lumber toward next week's draft with basically only the #15 pick in tow, and a bunch of unanswered questions. Let's lay them out and get everyone's prediction.

The Philadelphia 76ers head into the summer faced with questions about their identity. As the Sixers made their unlikely run to within a game of the Eastern Conference Finals, the team's major deficiencies were apparent to much of the fan base. With the season coming to an end on Saturday, now the team must turn toward the future. Among the plethora of offseason decisions the team is faced with, their coach's fingerprints seemingly will be on every one of them. The problem is it's not entirely clear if that is a good thing.

The 20-9 start, the 15-22 finish and the 7-6 run to within one game of the Eastern Conference Finals. It was a wild ride for the Sixers, unfortunately, if they were going to change my mind about their future, they would have needed to do it in the ECF, against a healthy, talented contender. That's not to say I'm not proud of what they accomplished this season. The post season run was great, and probably more than we should've expected. But still, here we are. A step below the upper echelon, the question is whether if they can get there without starting over from scratch.

Another wing isn't at the top of the Sixers list of needs, but it's on there somewhere. Jason Kapono is gone and there have been several rumors of Andres Nocioni's departure swirling as well. A guy who could fill the role nicely is Reggie Williams and he may have just become more available.

They need a big. They need a scorer. They should trade up for Kanter or Biyombo. Iguodala must go. Thad must be re-signed. Let Hawes walk. There's no shortage of opinions on what the Sixers should do this summer and I'm sure everyone has the same goal in mind. My only question is where does the path lead through?

I'm still recovering a little bit from what was an amazing season. More ups and downs than you can shake a stick at. We're going to have plenty to talk about over the next several months (hopefully not more than five or six), but for now, I'll just open the floor to you guys. Open thread to lead us into the great unknown.

Heading into a new season, fans and pundits are calling for more wins. But it will take at least a 50% jump in wins to be even talking about playoffs. A winning season is a possibility, but probably not something we can count on. But this can still be an exciting and compelling season - because this could be 'the year' for so many players on this roster.

That was a really bad draft. I think Doug Smith went 4th. There were 4 pretty bad ones in a row, 1988-1991....

Several times I've heard Doug Collins make a long-winded statement about team defense involving houses and neighborhoods and yards. I'm not sure he ever really gets the saying right, but the gist of it is that he wants the Sixers to limit open looks from three and keep opponents out of the paint. That just leaves two-point jumpers. A fine strategy on the defensive end, and one I'm sure opponents will utilize against the Sixers.

The problem with following this Sixers team too closely is that small inconsistencies stand out, and they tend to carry more weight than they should. Take last year for example: Ed Stefanski droned on and on about how important defense is, then he hired Eddie Jordan and sat idly by while he dismantled the team's defensive identity. This summer, though, the inconsistencies are running in a different, positive direction.

Let's clear up some misconceptions about Evan Turner, selected with the #2 overall pick by the Sixers this past summer. The sky is not falling. He is not a bust or even a mistake. He is the same player he was three months ago, a talented, "NBA" ready 22-year-old stud wing who dominated last year and almost single-handedly led Ohio State to a 29-8 record and 2nd seed in the NCAA Tournament.
