What A Shame

My only deep thought about tonight's game focused on the tragic demise of a great team name. Is it ironic that a city whose football team is still named the Redskins folded to PC pressure and changed their name from the Bullets to the Wizards?

Anyway, the Wiz are currently 27 games under .500 and sinking fast. After the jump we'll take a super-quick look at the stats, talk about what I want to see from EB and, of course, our in-game discussion.

One quick note, anyone who considers the Elton Brand signing the biggest mistake of the season, obviously has never heard of a guy named Gilbert Arenas. If that contract didn't have Allan Houston written all over it, I don't know what did.

Back to the game. The Sixers take every category above except offensive turnover rate. I have a feeling that stat will take a hit for the Wiz tonight, though. I'm not going to spend a ton of time talking about what a win or a loss would mean. They have to win. They will win.

I'm going to be watching to see if we get the same Elton Brand tonight that we've seen since he came back from his injury. In case you missed it, this Elton Brand could care less about touches on the offensive end. He's out there to play top-notch, game-changing defense, rebound the ball and get this team out on the break.

I think we may see his minutes dialed back a bit from the 26 he played the other night. The Sixers have a back-to-back with the Nets coming to town tomorrow. If he plays 30 tonight, I'm not sure he'd even be available tomorrow night. I'm expecting about 20-22 minutes of intesne effort. Pretty much the same thing I'm expecting from Speights.

One thing I'd like to see the Sixers turn around is their three-point shooting. Over the past two games they're shooting 3/26 from three. That's 11%, folks. The Wiz have allowed their opponents to shoot 38% from three and they've actually been outscored from deep by a larger margin than the Sixers (the differential is only 1 more three, though.). I'd like to see a demonstrative win that's settled early, solid play from EB, Speights and Lou. Give me those three things and I'll be a happy man heading into the weekend.

Tip is at 7pm. I'll be right here, so if you're watching, join the discussion in the comments.

Oh, and this is B.S., just in case you come across it.
