The whole Depressed Fan family is on vacation for the next two weeks. Fear not, there will be regular updates here throughout, but I'm not sure how active I will be in the comments during the day. We'll kick off our Predicting 2010 series tomorrow with Jason Kapono. In the mean time, use this post to discuss any and all Sixers news. Enjoy your Monday, guys.
A couple of articles got caught by my filter over the past couple days about Lou Williams' confidence in stepping into the role of starting point guard, and e-mailed to me by loyal readers (thanks Dean). One blurb in particular caught my eye. Basically, Lou said he's going to be playing 30-35 minutes per night. I'm sure I realized that would be the case, but I hadn't really thought about it. Nor had I thought about how the minutes will be doled out at the guard positions. After the jump, I'm going to try to make an educated guess and see how Jrue fits in.
You are Ed Stefanski for the day. Your hands aren't completely tied by ownership, they'll let you shell out some money, if the player can make a difference. Here's the question, do you go after Ramon Sessions at this point? Pros, cons and discussion after the jump.
Perhaps I've been too blasé about Andre Miller's departure from the Sixers. I agree that re-singing him for more than two seasons would have been foolish. I understand the team's desire to give Lou a legitimate shot at the point, they did give him a hefty contract last summer after all. Generally, I'm pretty happy with the youth movement, but there are definitely things I'm going to miss about Miller. After the jump we'll talk about one thing in particular that I believe he could've passed on to Jrue Holiday.
The Michael Vick situation as well as some spirited Iverson debate over the weekend left me with an interesting question I thought I'd pose to you guys. Is there anything the Sixers could do that would make you find another favorite team?
Allen Iverson was a great player for the Sixers, he brought my favorite team back from the depths of obscurity, he put the Sixers on his back and took them to the NBA Finals in 2001. I appreciate everything the guy has done for this team and I admire his toughness, talent and unbelievable desire to win. For all of those reasons and more, I hope someone signs him, and does it quickly. I just hope it isn't the Sixers.
It's been far too long since I last broke out a spreadsheet to analyze the Sixers on a deeper level. Today, it's time to reset the clock. After the jump we're going to take a look at trends in what I consider three crucial stats that aren't typically talked about by the MSM, then check several key splits to see how the team performed in certain situations.
Yesterday, we learned that a whopping 84 percent of the voters believe the Sixers will improve on defense this season. After the jump, we'll talk a bit about offense and then take another vote.
Latest comment: from BrianHeh. I'm concentrating on bringing Miller back so I can get his stats on Portland....
It's a Tuesday in the middle of August, there's absolutely nothing going on in the Sixers' world (other than dueling UStream broadcasts by Lou Williams and Andre Iguodala). I figured this would be as good a time as any to get your feelings on one of the big questions I have for the upcoming season.
Latest comment: from EduardoOk, now i understand the rating system ;)...
In baseball, inning limits have become all the rage. Teams are treating young pitchers like they're made of glass, the underlying theory being too many innings too early in a career leads to a higher likelihood of serious injury. Today, we aren't going to debate the trend in baseball, that's a long discussion for another blog, instead, we'll try to relate the logic to basketball.
In light of the Eagles' shocking signing of Michael Vick, I thought I'd spend this glorious Friday talking about something that's hardly ever mentioned.
Latest comment: from MikeWhat happened to you, Brandon? You used to be someone I could trust....
The vast majority of comments on this blog, other blogs, columns from the MSM and message board banter has labeled the Sixers' front office as cheap. There's obviously some evidence to support that notion, but I don't think there's a simple answer to the question stated above. Let's discuss after the jump.
Latest comment: from BrianEh, I don't think the Yanks are complaining about anything these days....
