The Yanks’ rotation took a big hit this morning when an MRI on Chien-Ming Wang’s hamstring revealed a tear in his hamstring.
The tear is a Grade 1, which is the least serious, but he’s expected to be sidelined until late April at the earliest.
This is very bad news for the Yanks. Torre will have less options should Pavano (5.84 ERA, 18 hits, 7 walks and 5 Ks so far in 12.1 innings), Igawa (3.00 ERA, 10 hits, 10 walks, 15 Ks so far in 12 innings) or both falter.
Jeff Karstens is the odds on favorite to round out the rotation. This mean either Pettitte or Mussina will take the hill on opening day.
The Yanks’ hitters better come out of spring training ready to hit, because it’s going to be Mussina, Pettite and pray for rain for at least a month. A slow start could mean Philip Hughes in NY sooner rather than later, but that’s still doubtful.

Jeff Karstens (A.K.A. Gollum) will pick up the slack.
By the way, snazzy new lay-out.
Not sure how I feel about Karstens, obviously I'd prefer him to Pavano, but I'd prefer you taking the mound every fifth day to Pavano.
Glad you like the layout, Green Pinstripes is getting a new one too sometime this week if I can find the time.
Huh!
My change-up is pretty devastating.
A 60 MPH fastball is not a change-up. But I will admit that you throw harder than Chad Pennington, if that's any consolation.
I top out at 63 MPH, thank you very much - and no, it isn't.
