I know plenty of Yankee fans who are happy that the Yanks brought Andy Pettitte back home, personally, I think they're all nuts. In what world does a rotation with an average age of 34 make sense? Keep in mind that the rotation is that old with Wang in it, and he's 24.
Obviously the fans who are excited to have Pettitte back are the same ones who are hoping Clemens follows him back to the Bronx. Great, add another 45 year-old arm and probably another $20 million to the payroll.
If George wanted Pettitte so bad, he should've shelled out the extra couple of million it would've taken three years ago when he went to Houston. Instead we're stuck with Pavano and his psychotic, malingering behavior. We still don't have a first baseman, and there's still no spot for Melky Cabrera in the outfield.
It was no coincidence that the Yanks played their best ball last season when Sheffield and Matsui were hurt and they were forced to rely on younger players. Just ask the Knicks how well a group of overpayed ex-superstars perform without some hungry young players in the mix. I'm still waiting to see if the Yanks make one good move this offseason. Not signing Bonds doesn't count, because I'm sure George would've pulled the trigger if San Fran hadn't.
