The Yankees
3-2 win over the Orioles coupled with the
BJ's 4-3 loss to the Sawks means the Yanks are no longer one in the bottom half of the A.L. East, they're officially in the middle. Let's see if we can keep it that way over the final eight games, huh?
A few fleeting thoughts from the game tonight. Brett Gardner made an amazing catch in center, robbing Luke Scott of a home run. He also slapped a double into left center to plate a run. A funny Gardner stat: with runners in scoring position he's 10/24 (.417) without men in scoring position he's 10/79 (.126). Maybe they should bat him third.
The pen was excellent tonight. Pavano went his obligatory five innings and Coke, Bruney, Marte, Joba and Mo threw 4 scoreless to lock down the win for the Bombers. Damon magnificently shattered a bat early in the game on a pop out. Joba was absolutely lights out. He struck out the side in the 8th. Mo was a little shaky, but nailed down the save in what could be his final save op at the stadium. Girardi said he will use Mo for the final inning on Sunday night, so I'm wondering if that means he won't be available tomorrow in a save situation. My gut says he will be, he can throw three days in a row. Let's just hope the game isn't tied going into the top of the 9th on Sunday.
The Yanks have now won 6 of 7, and if they go undefeated over the next five games, and Boston goes 0-6 the Yanks can overtake the Sox with a three game sweep in Boston to end the season. No additional comment needed.
Player of The Game: Joba
Team Record: 83-71
Damon: Uno, 65 on the season.
You gotta love that catch from Gardner that robbed a HR... That made the PECO power play of the day on Sportsnite and saved Pavano...
That catch was amazing. He's looked a lot better in center than he did in left. I guess it was just a familiarity thing.
Now he just needs to learn how to send his flying bat into opposing team's dugout over and over again.
The 2009 Yankees will be invincible when every single opposing player is Pavanoed.
