Sixers

, all the time

You said it in your other column/thread....this is the game that I have been waiting for. I will forget about all of the other things that are frustrating me and just hope for the W. I hate the Celtics, I love the sixers. Lets make this happen.

no problem, came up on my twitter feed, thought you guys would enjoy. I hadn't heard of that site either, seems like a lot of interesting stuff with Synergy

No Thad tonight, sick. Damn.

Unleash #33.

Fuck me. That's crippling in this game. No athleticism advantage up front at all. I want AI9 to play like 15 minutes at the four.

user-pic
Rich reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 18:19

He really is the biggest advantage anybody had in this game, considering he's an energy guy with them on short rest. Now it's gone.

no thad tonight(illness)

Tonight, the sixers unleash their most secret weapon

The Brack Attack

Supposedly Eskin has also been told that Turner will be in the starting lineup for the balance of the season.

Tonight would be a good night to show that is the right call, Evan.

good, for better or for worse, they have to figure out what he can do

I think it would be kind of silly to say something like that publicly at this point. Whatever.

user-pic

No Thad? mutha........

I'd like to see Jrue play effectively but i'm not holding my breath. rondo will probably kill us.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:04

Guess we'll see Lavoy with extended mintues then.

Didn't I read something about Turner's agent getting involved about a week ago? Can't remember where I saw that, or if I'm just imagining it.

user-pic
eddies' heady's reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 19:08

You're right, David Falk was mentioned as being in the tunnel watching games. Think Cooney reported it, or Cooney was quoted on that CBS site. Falk said something silly though about he wasn't there to talk to the coach. Have to look it up again, can't remember details.

Falk = best agent in the history of professional sports, maybe.

Sixers feed in HD on LP tonight. Nice. I would've hurt someone if I had to listen to the BOS feed.

user-pic
South Broad reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 19:11

Tommy points!

Battie is starting, not Voose.

Dear ET, please start making shots.

I like Battie getting the start against KG. Voose plays better off the bench and we'll need some producation tonight from the bench bigs.

Aaaaaand we're off...Battie WINS the tip. Shockingly.

Come on, push the fucking pace. I want to be out of breath trying to keep up with the game thread.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:12
+/-

Jrue firing away early, as usual.

Turner on Rondo

Jrue hits the J. I refuse to get excited about early made shots.

Turner on Battie, Turner or AI9 on Allen?

Hmmn. Maybe that'll keep Turner focused on D.

Great job by AI9 to not settle for the three.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:14
+/-

Really good fake Andre, nice take.

user-pic
Court_visioN on Mar 7 at 19:14

nice hesitation move by Iguodala! Pierce bit on that 3!

Good D, Turner takes it coast to coast for the tough layup

There you go, ET!

Jrue isn't letting Allen catch the ball.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:15
+/-

Doug must really not have confidence in Jrue's on-the-ball D, that or he was worried about fouls.

Not sure what it is. But he's denying the ball to Allen really well.

user-pic
Court_visioN on Mar 7 at 19:15
+/-

JTI opens the game with 3 buckets.

Turner and Iguodala blow two layups.

wow streetball

Make a layup.

AI9 to ET. Come on, keep this energy up.

EB. Good possession. No jumpers.

user-pic
Court_visioN on Mar 7 at 19:17
+/-

I think Doug's trying to light a fire under turner, putting him on the ball offensively, and putting him on the ball defensively. Two of Turner's strengths - so far ET has been doing well.

Plus ET boards better.

Wow, Pierce with a miracle jumper over Iguodala.

JH to EB. Like the pace.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:18
+/-

Now that's the kind of pass you need to make Jrue, often.

This is good. Nothing but jumpers from BOS, we're getting to the rack. Quicker to the ball too.

Ugh. ET TO.

user-pic
Court_visioN reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 19:20
+/-

trying to do too much with the clock running down

I know Turner made a bad TO there, but if Battie could execute a 2 on 1 that ET spoonfed him under the hoop, that point is moot.

Voooooooooooooooooose.

So apparently all you need to do is scream like a bitch whenever you're near the hoop and you get the whistle. Or at least you do if your name is Paul Pierce.

user-pic
Rich reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 19:21
+/-

Fucking horrible. Ball don't lie.

EB can jump?

EB w/ the follow.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:21
+/-

Andre w/ the behind-the-back pass!!! EB slam!

Keep it up. Run them out of the fucking gym.

ET!!!

Jrue w/ the deflection. EB with the quick outlet to ET. ET behind his back in the open to court then the oop to AI9 for the SLAM!

RUN!

That whole play is made possible by Jrue not losing Allen and forcing him baseline. Beautiful.

user-pic

ET looks like the guy we saw at the beginning of the year, keep it up young fella

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:23

Needs to be said

Man I despise these characters!

Now let's just keep doing what is working, please.

Voose, keep rolling to the hoop on that.

Argh. ET

Jrue actually drew contact, no whistle.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:26
+/-

Jrue had EB on the pop, didn't even look his way. Ended in a TO, ugh

Man, Turner. That shot just has to go in.

Don't fucking let up here. Lou, don't dribble the air out, keep the ball moving. AI9 J.

There we go ET!

ET+1. In the post w/ Rondo on him. Nice.

user-pic

kid misses one jumper and you're all on his nuts. this might be his best stretch since Denver

3/7 for 7 points if he hits this freebie. His best stretch is a .500 TS%. Not saying he isn't playing well, but if that's his best stretch, that's not very good from an efficiency standpoint.

3/7 for 6 points.

user-pic
johnrosz reply to Brian on Mar 7 at 19:32
+/-

when Dre struggles offensively, or lacks efficiency, you always throw in the qualifier.

BUT he has 4 boards, BUT he's playing good defense...

I think TS aside, he's playing better than we've seen in quite a while

And saying "Argh, ET" isn't exactly jumping all over him when he misses a jumper.

Nice post by, ET.

Sixers defense has been pretty good so far. Celtics making a lot of tough shots.

lou +1

Don't. Let. Up.

Pour. It. On.

Ten.-Fold.

Lou iso on Bradley is not a good matchup. Fuck me.

PHI 33, BOS 17 after one.

That last possession blew, the rest of the quarter was spectacular. 3 more quarters like that. Don't fucking let up.

THAT'S WAY YOU TRY TO RUN A FUCKING PLAY... DAMNIT!

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:36
+/-

Yeah, I was thinking if anyone is Lou's kryptonite, it's Avery.

Well at least the Sixers dont recognize the hot hand at the end of the quarter or have any sort of ball movement, gotta stick with what works....

Not only did Lou take a horrible shot at the end there, he took it with like 8 seconds left on the clock. Bradley just ate his lunch.

Come on, Lou.

user-pic
Phil reply to Rich on Mar 7 at 19:39

And it's not only the possible 4 point turnaround. You can kill momentum with such BS...

ET!

That was a really nice finish on Garnett. Good quarter, let's see some more of it.

Come on, put some fucking pressure on them when Rondo is on the bench. Damnit, just letting them walk the ball up the floor.

I'm amazed at how excited the Sixers fans in attendance always get excited for a Lou iso

Garnett has turned into such an old bitch. Nothing but jumpers.

Voose and Lou can't throw it in the ocean.

user-pic
johnrosz on Mar 7 at 19:44

really need Lou to pick up the bench in a big way tonight...

Neither team has scored in 3 minutes...

If that streak lasts another 33 minutes, we win!

Defense is freaking stifling right now. They're getting nothing good. They need Rondo and Pierce back on the floor.

Why the grab Lavoy? You didn't need to do that.

EB! Turner found him when the look disappeared in the lane. good job.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 19:48

Lou 3! He needs to go to the damn hole though.

Wow, Lou in Avery's eye as the shot clock winds down.

Pietrus may give ET problems.

Lou to the line.

Rondo starting to mix the mortar for the foundation. heh

Great D, AI9.

ET to the line.

Turner w/ the 20-footer after two blown bunnies. Not bad.

Hang on, I must have missed this earlier but what happened to Thad?

Out tonight. He's fine.

jrue 3!!!!

Keep those shovels busy, guys. The dirt appears moist and soft tonight.

I'm not kidding at all. I want to see Turner score 40 in this game.

I'd settle for 30+, cant remember the last time that happened

heh, I was just playing off the green

EB!

EB had that blocked flat-footed. And they called the foul on him? Come on.

Voooooooooose.

Like how Voose never brought the ball down that time.

would that be defined as athletic?

No. Smart. But lack of movement isn't really athletic.

Yeah I was being sarcastic.

user-pic
GoSixers on Mar 7 at 20:02

This game doesn't count - jermaine o'neal isn't playing

Lavoy has shown hard on those picks. Very nice.

Shit, Turner. Gotta grab that ball. This press is not hard to break. That would've been a dunk if Allen threw the pass to Voose, or Voose could jump more than 0.5 inches on the Jrue pass.

I think Garnett just called Voose a N...a!

user-pic
Rich reply to KellyDad on Mar 7 at 20:05

Shit outta here!

Voose deserves to get embarrassed. He's let Bass get them back in the game.

user-pic

Celtics 1st half - 33 pts

Sixers 1st quarter - 33 pts

Me like.

Let's hope Doug can shown them how to break the traps during the break. Shouldn't be that hard to make them pay.

Great, great half, pretty bad end though. Voose and Lavoy haven't been good by any means.

PHI 55, BOS 33 at the half.

Boston broke out the trap and the zone to get it down to 22 at the half.

To be honest with you, Turner is the type of guy who can just dribble through full court pressure, if you want to go that way. Flashing Iguodala to the middle of the floor works too. I'm not really worried about the desperation move. The Celts don't nearly have the legs to keep it up, even if it's somewhat effective. The zone in the half court could be problematic unless Jrue can knock down the threes. Just move the ball.

Has a guard ever had a 30/20 game? Not out of the question for Turner here.

Sixers had a .50 OREB Rate in the first half.

Come on. No fucking let up at all. Push this lead to 30 before Boston knows what hit them.

user-pic
johnrosz on Mar 7 at 20:17

WAtching Heat Hawks at the half...jerry stackhouse is getting regular minutes for ATL??

Gotta love Garnett talking trash down by 21.

Garnett with another N bomb!!

JH to EB for the foul line jumper.

Great D by Jrue on Pierce. ET needs to grab that one as well.

AI9 w/ the sick steal and pass to ET for the jam on the break. So fun to watch.

I fucking hate Kevin Garnett

ET three! Splash! Rarity.

Someone warm up the "trade Iggy" machine over on Philly.com.

It would be vertually impossible for him to change his shot in 48 hours.

user-pic
Rich reply to KellyDad on Mar 7 at 20:54

Yes he could. He could make minor tweaks, and definitely revert to old habits in that amount of time. This is even before considering how poorly he's shot the ball and how frustrating that has to be.

Garnett not only is moving on every screen, he's also holding his opponent. It's pathetic.

Now that's the number 2 pick we been looking for.

Finish this quarter strong. Push it to 30.

I felt that we would beat these guys tonight because of Boston's b2b and playing so hard in OT last night, but I never imagined it would be a slaughter like this.

Insanely small lineup for the Sixers here. Voose, Turner, Meeks, Williams, Holiday.

user-pic
eddies' heady's on Mar 7 at 20:46

Bet Doc doesn't bring his big three back in the 4th quarter. White towel.

So no triple double for Dre tonight? :/

Not unless something bad happens.

PHI 80, BOS 53 after three.

Added five in the third. Turner's going to get some more burn here, has to. They don't have any scrubs in the back court.

user-pic

Lost in all the ET coming out party and proverbial blowout, Elton Brand has been an absolute beast tonight.

8/9 for 18 points. 8 boards, a couple blocks in 25 minutes.

He has run the floor all night

BTW I'm really glad I've got the CSN Philly feed on NBA.tv ... Heinsohn moaning would take all the fun away.

Great effing job, now do it again, fellas.

Game threads always crack me up. When the Sixers are choking, it's like 500 comments. When they're reaming the Celtics, eh, under 300.

Nope, 32 point margin is the biggest in the Big 3 era.

They only lost by 4 in game 7 if you're referring to '09-'10. They lost even worse in game 6 that year by 22, maybe that's what you're referring to.

Eh, I don't think so. Rondo, with how great and inspired he can play in big games, is a major product of his teammates' shooting. That's why he has more value to Boston than most teams. I thought Jrue's defense on Ray chasing him off the ball was excellent for most of the night and Iguodala made it tough for Pierce as he always does against opposing wings. If you take those two guys out, you can play off Rondo. Turner did that well.

we'll just agree to disagree...I think that Turner's length and leverage kept Rondo from really getting cranked...it also allowed Jrue to cover Allen, which would not have been the case if Meeks was in there.

Yeah I'm not saying he did a bad job, just that he had help. I just think it starts with guarding the other guys and then it's a lot easier to stop him. Heh, the Knicks couldn't do it.

As far as him not getting help, it seems like when he was scoring tonight that nothing was on a set play. Basically it was freelance stuff. We'll see how that translates if he gets the ball in his hands as much next game.

I think that is why he only had 2 assists - because he was able to get to the rim or get clean looks. I feel pretty comfortable that he will be able to create for others as the opportunity presents itself.

I think the main reason why Turner guarded him was so that they couldn't run the 1/3 P&R and get Jrue on Pierce. They love that play. It's a huge advantage to have a big guy that can guard PGs and switch onto bigs. The Mavs do the same thing with Marion.

GREAT observation...I agree 100%

Another positive of JTI out there - better P&R defense.

Doc Rivers postgame: "I was going to send Tyronn Lue out to talk to you guys cause I have nothing to say".

The Sixers said it all for you Rivers.

The Doug Collins "Evan Turner love-fest" just ended.

Wow.

We look like a different rebounding team out there when we have two legit bigs(Battie/Brand/Allen/Vuc)playing and Iggy/Turner on the wings. With enough size out there to move other bigs off the block, Iggy/Turner can swoop in, grab boards and start the break. Pretty much the only benefit from having Thad out. I would love to see Thad play some SF, probably with Vuc as a big. Thad can guard most threes and Vuc has a decent enough outside shot to space the floor to allow some Thad post-ups on smaller SFs. Plus Thad won't have to worry about grabbing defensive rebounds as much and can run the floor more, which makes me extremely happy to think about.

I've been looking forward to this game for a while since I knew the Celtics were done and this game would symbolize that. I expected a 10-15 point win but I did not expect a 33 point win. I hope we face them in the playoffs.

Celtics have lost all 6 road games on second game of back-to-backs. Average margin of defeat 17 points.

Refuse to get too high off of this game for that very reason, as bad as I'd like to.

Yes, but Turner having a great game could help to instill confidence in him as well as confidence that this line up can work.

How does that relate to the Sixers catching Boston in a vulnerable state?

Evan Turner.

Lest we forget, he's done this before.

He's actually not that good, and he'll never be good. We should've drafted Cousins. Total waste of a pick.

a win is a win, I think the biggest positive to take out of this game is the jti relationship. All three looked like they played in this new role for years, turner really set the pace for the team which is his strength and it looked like jrue and ai were comfortable allowing him to set the tone and it helped let them play to there strengths.

I am not going to take any stock into turners 26 points in 3 quarters but I will take stock in that he is like any other star in the league that for him to score he has to be in rhythm which is not shooting 12 times one night then 4 the next, its consistent 15 to 20 times a game which will allow you to figure out where your sweet spots are and allowing you to get into rhythm with your jump shot especially when your not a pure shooter like turner.

Heh, Knicks down by 36, already given up 101 points w/ 10 minutes to go in the fourth.

How are you liking Lin's defense on Parker?

I kind of miss the Lin trolls, actually.

wow. Were they really down by that much? They were down by 20 after 3. So I guess the Knicks outscored the Spurs by 23 and scored 32 points in the in the final 10 minutes. Did D'Antoni keep the starters in? It would explain why JR, Melo, Amare and Lin all had more than 18 points.

Sixers notes (with Collins video): Sixers say there's nothing to radio report about Turner:

Watched the game on delay tonight...very happy to see Turner not only bounce back, but really play like he BELONGS in the league. Nice effort all around by the team as well. My fiance is a F'n Celtics fan (insert nasty comment here) so my night is perfect.

The LB recap had a good term for Turner: Ohio State Mode. Even though I hate the reasons we need to call it, I'll embrace it, especially if he gets his shit together.

Hey, I'm just glad he finally had a good NBA game. Seems like the first time in a while.

Seriously, if he can give you half of that offense regularly, this team is SO much more dangerous. 13-15 efficient points from the 2, plus the rebounding, plus the added defense over Meeks. Please, please, please let this be the start of something.

J/T/I: Collins will need to find a way to maximize their strengths and hide their weaknesses. I think he will need to play ET as sort of a power guard meaning he gets low post scoring and rebounds. Pretend like he is a mini-Magic.

bebopdeluxe reply to tk76 on Mar 8 at 8:21

Watching Iguodala and ET work that post-up game on Rondo was a thing of beauty. With JTI out there, it should all be about finding the mismatch on the floor and PUNISHING it...remember, in the 3rd quarter of the Dallas game, right after Turner went off the floor, Carlisle IMMEDIATELY went to Kidd on Lou on two straight possessions...and after a post up bucket and a 3 off of a Kidd double-team (they couldn't leave Lou alone on him), they went to the opposite side and did the same thing with VC on Meeks.

There should ALWAYS be a mismatch on the floor when JTI is out there...and you now have THREE ballhandlers to make sure that mismatch gets taken advantage of.
